There are not many choices from which a Soccer Referee may source his/her kit. Some sources offer selections that are downright poor - either unappealing in appearance, fit, feel or longevity. OSI gear is consistently high quality, long wearing, comfortable and reasonably color-fast. These shirts can be too hot on hot days and not nearly warm enough on cold days, but in between they are fine. I have shirts that are 8 years old that are still being worn. Yes, the pocket corners show wear, the colors are not what they were when new and anyone who knows can tell it is a tired part of my kit. But heck, they have been through a hundred or more wash and dry spins and to still be able to put it on and look as good as it does is fairly remarkable in my book. The price is almost exactly double other shirts from across the soccer kit universe, but in the end the others may be little more than false bargains when they don't give the same performance.
The shirts carry the USSF logo which may or may not be important for you. And while it is only a suspicion, it appears that the designs change when the manufacturer and the USSF decide it is time to make more money by aging overnight all the uniforms across 140,000 USSF referees in the USA. OSI pays the USSF royalties for the right to use their logo on their products. Thus, if the designs change both parties make more money with the sale of newly redesigned uniforms. Good thing they have not yet figured out how to change the shorts, but that should not be ruled out for the future!
If you are a teenager and being a referee is only a way to make some money for now, then by all means go the less expensive route. You may not be a referee long enough to make the investment pay off. However, if you have been at the referee craft for some time and think you could be in the ranks for a good while still, then these shirts are a very worthwhile investment.

As the description states this is the official shirt for soccer officials in the U.S.
For all recreational and club soccer officiating as well as High School this is the standard.
There are two styles made by "Official Sports" the Pro style (the one I am reviewing here) and the economy.
Unfortunately, there are five colors now and if you are serious you need 5 long sleeve and 5 short sleeve shirts which is costly (nearly $500.00 if you pay full price)!
The PRO Shirts are worth the extra cost, they last much longer, are very durable, comfortable and the the velcro closure pockets and button up collar are very important if you work as a Center.
Many associations around the country offer discounts on these shirts so if you are licensed you might want to inquire about this. I am able to get the short sleeves for $32 and the long sleeves for $34.00 which is a much better price so if you are are a member of an association I would ask about discounts.
Great shirts, can't beat the quality!

There are a two ways you can go with a referee shirt. You can go to the various soccer clearance sites or the more ubiquitous auction sites and pick up a cheap shirt that does not carry the USSF logo but appears to be the right color. After a long day of refereeing five or six matches in the heat (or cold), you will regret going for the itchy, scratchy cheap material. OR you can go for this OSI/USSF branded shirt.
I have seven ref shirts (three of which are OSI/USSF branded) and I wear these three almost exclusively. The cheaper brand blue shirt I own is noticeably less comfortable to run in.
In summary, spend the extra $20 for the officially endorsed gear. You are not just paying for the endorsement, you are paying for better quality and your body will thanks you for it in the long run.
