    Coach's guide

How to pick the right soccer goal

Two questions sort it out: who's playing, and where. As a college coach, here's how I'd size it up before you buy — match the goal to the level first, then check it against your space.

Match the goal to who's playing

    Backyard & Practice

Pop-up and portable goals that fold flat and travel. Any age, any space — the right call for backyards, parks, and small-sided drills where setup speed matters more than size.

    Youth & Club Training

Sized to the age group — 4×6 for U6–U8, 6½×12 for U9–U10, 7×21 for U11–U12. Academy and Deluxe European Club frames are built for daily use, not the flimsy stuff that bends after a season.

    Match & Regulation

The official 8×24 full-size goal for U13 and up, high school, college, and adult play. Heavy-duty aluminum Fusion and Evolution frames, built to anchor safely and take a real strike.

Soccer goal size by age (U.S. Youth Soccer)

Age / Format Goal size (H × W) Best for
    U6–U8 · 4v4 4 ft × 6 ft First goals, backyards, small-sided
    U9–U10 · 7v7 6½ ft × 12 ft Recommended 7v7 size (up to 6½ × 18½)
    U11–U12 · 9v9 7 ft × 21 ft 9v9 club and league play
    U13+ · 11v11 · HS / College / Adult 8 ft × 24 ft Official / regulation full-size goal
    Futsal 10 ft × 6½ ft (3m × 2m) Indoor futsal courts

Sizes follow U.S. Youth Soccer's small-sided standards — clubs shouldn't exceed the max for an age group. Want the full breakdown with anchoring and safety notes? Read our soccer goal size guide.

Regulation soccer goal specs (NCAA · NFHS · FIFA)

A full-size goal is 8 ft × 24 ft across every sanctioning body — what changes is the post tolerance. Here's what NCAA, high school (NFHS), and FIFA require, so a school, college, or club orders a frame that passes inspection.

Standard Goal size (H × W) Post diameter Post shape Anchored
NCAA 8 ft × 24 ft 4″ – 5″ Square, rectangular, round, or oval Required
NFHS · High school 8 ft × 24 ft 3″ – 5″ Square, rectangular, round, or oval Required
FIFA / IFAB 8 ft × 24 ft Up to 5″ (12 cm) Equal to the goal-line width Required (portable)

Most of our full-size 8×24 goals are NCAA and NFHS approved — the match lines (Fusion, Evolution, and Pro Premier) run 4″–4⅜″ round posts and meet both. Post diameter is the deciding spec: a goal with 3″ posts is NFHS-approved but not NCAA-eligible, and lighter training or backyard goals aren't sanctioned for match play. Buying for sanctioned college soccer? Pick a 4″+ post frame, or message us to confirm the exact post size before you order. Portable goals of any size must be anchored or counter-weighted; ask us about ground anchors and weights. Compare the lineup

Which full-size soccer goal is right for you?

Every full-size Kwikgoal frame is all-aluminum and ASTM tested — the difference is post diameter and sanctioning, which is what decides club, high school, or college eligibility. Here's the 8×24 lineup, lightest-duty to elite.

Model Best for NCAA NFHS From
NXT Club training & rec from $720
Academy Youth clubs & schools from $1,015
Deluxe European Club High school & club match from $1,420
Fusion High school & college from $3,335
    Evolution 2.1 College & premium from $3,985
Pro Premier Stadium & elite from $4,050

"From" is the lowest available size in each line. NCAA requires a 4″ minimum post and NFHS a 3″ minimum — so a 3″-post goal is NFHS-legal but not NCAA-eligible. See goal safety & anchoring →

    Ordering a net?

How to measure your soccer goal

Goals are listed height × width (8×24 = 8 ft high, 24 ft wide). For a replacement net you'll also need the net's top depth (D) and bottom run-back (B). Nets come three ways — box-style, no-depth, and with-depth — so match the style and the H × W × D × B measurements to the frame you already own.

More about soccer goals & nets

A soccer goal earns its keep whether it's a 4×6 in the backyard for a kid's first touches, a club's set of training goals run hard every evening, or a full-size 8×24 anchored on a match field. Parents buying a youth goal, coaches kitting out a practice field, schools and clubs ordering for a complex, and rec-league adults all land here — and they all need the size matched to the level, not guessed at.

This collection covers the full range: 4×6 and 6½×12 Academy and Deluxe European Club goals for youth, 7×21 and regulation 8×24 frames for older play, Fusion and Evolution match goals for high school and college, portable Goalazo and Kwik Flex training goals, Infinity pop-up goals, and replacement soccer nets sized from 4×6 to 8×24. Goal Kick Soccer is an authorized Kwikgoal dealer, so every goal is the real thing — not a backyard-flimsy knockoff that bends after one season.

Goal Kick Soccer has been the trusted source for soccer gear since 2001. Free shipping on orders $85 and up, ships fast from our Iowa warehouse.

    Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about buying soccer goals and nets.

What size soccer goal do I need?
Match it to the age group. U.S. Youth Soccer uses 4×6 for U6–U8, 6½×12 (up to 6½×18½) for U9–U10, 7×21 for U11–U12, and the full-size 8×24 for U13 and up. For a backyard, a smaller 4×6 or a pop-up goal is plenty. If you're between sizes or buying for a club, message us — we'll point you to the right frame.
What's the official / regulation soccer goal size?
A regulation full-size soccer goal is 24 feet wide by 8 feet high. That's the official size for U13 and up, high school, college, professional, and FIFA play — the same goal people search for as "8x24," "full size," "official size," or "professional" soccer goal. Futsal goals are smaller at 3m × 2m (about 10 × 6½ feet).
Are your soccer goals NCAA / NFHS approved?
Most of our full-size 8×24 goals are. The match-grade lines — Fusion (4″ posts), Evolution (4⅜″), and Pro Premier Copa, European Match, and World Competition (4⅜″) — meet both NCAA and NFHS standards. The deciding spec is post diameter: NCAA requires a 4″ minimum and NFHS a 3″ minimum, so a goal with 3″ posts is NFHS-approved but not NCAA-eligible, and lighter training or backyard goals aren't sanctioned for match play. If you need an NCAA- or NFHS-legal goal, pick a 4″+ post model or contact us and we'll confirm before you order.
Where can I buy soccer goals for sale?
Right here. Goal Kick Soccer is an authorized Kwikgoal dealer and has been selling soccer goals online since 2001. We carry youth, club, training, and regulation goals plus replacement nets, and back every order with real soccer people on support — not a call center.
What's the best soccer goal for a backyard?
For most backyards, a 4×6 or a portable goal is the sweet spot — big enough to be fun, small enough to store. Kwikgoal's Goalazo sets up in seconds and folds flat into a carry bag, and Infinity pop-up goals are even quicker for grab-and-go practice. If you've got the space and an older player, step up to a 6½×12.
Do you sell replacement soccer nets and goal posts?
Yes. We stock replacement Kwikgoal soccer nets sized to fit standard goal posts — 4×6, 6½×12, 7×21, and full-size 8×24, in knotted and knotless styles. If your frame is fine but the net's shot, you don't need a whole new goal. Tell us your goal size and we'll match you to the right net.
How does shipping work for soccer goals?
It depends on size. Smaller goals, pop-ups, and nets ship from our Iowa warehouse, with free shipping on orders $85+. Full-size and club goals ship by freight truck directly from the manufacturer, so they often ship separately and may carry an additional freight charge calculated at checkout. Bigger goals also take longer to arrive — if you need one for a season start or tournament, reach out first and we'll confirm lead time.
